New Mack truck features advancements in design, economy and efficiency

The Mack Pioneer™ boasts boundary-pushing new technology advancements in aerodynamic design, fuel economy and freight efficiency. You could say the new truck is wired to be a leader as a wide range of driver enhancements and powertrain efficiencies are made possible by a new electrical architecture.

To make all the features work, Mack's engineering team delivered the electrical upgrades necessary for powering electronics, software, telematics and wide range of interactive communication between systems.

Pioneer's wide array of state-of-the-art safety, ergonomic, productivity and comfort features require a network of advanced components all talking to each other and working in unison.

In addition, Mack upgraded the electrical system to 24 volts as compared to the previous generation's 12 volts. The increased electrical voltage is crucial to powering new safety, fuel efficiency and driver productivity features. Here are some of the new or improved features made possible by technology advances.

Advanced Media and Climate Control Panel

Mack’s new standard Media and Climate control panel allow the driver to operate the vehicle stereo and, climate and Bluetooth connectivity, all from a single integrated unit. The optional Infotainment unit utilizes a 9-inch touchscreen that’s offers multiple apps such as Sygic heavy-duty trucking navigation, vehicle settings, and available camera management.

Battery and Power Management

Mack offers the Dual Energy Storage Solution, a new battery configuration matched with an Ultra Capacitor. The Ultra Capacitor is an electrical storage device that allows the vehicle to be started even if the batteries are not charged at full capacity or voltage. This prevents the driver from being stranded due to insufficient battery charge. The new Dual Energy Storage Solution can be paired with an advanced battery power management feature. With this option, the truck can be configured to automatically restart the engine while parked to recharge the batteries when low voltage is detected. This reduces idle time and secures the battery charge when needed.

Instrument Cluster

Pioneer offers a new, user-friendly 12-inch digital instrument cluster display. The cluster allows the driver to confidently monitor engine and vehicle systems as well to be alerted to any faults or warnings that need immediate attention. The cluster will have six different views displaying various vehicle information that can be cycled and selected via the right-hand side steering wheel controls.

High-Level Key Fob

The high-level key fob option functionality includes door lock/unlock, battery saver activation, panic button, approach lighting, precheck inspection lamp check, activates parking climate to 72 degrees F (when properly equipped) and remote engine start (when properly equipped.)

Digital Mirror System

The Digital Mirror System comprises of cameras and in-cab displays that allows smaller mirror sizes for improved aero and a digital mirror system that replaces traditional truck mirrors. The Digital Mirror System, provides greater safety over traditional glass mirrors such as wider field of view, magnification for backing, trailer panning and infrared night vision.

Camera Vision System

Mack will offer several camera system options that range from a factory installed single digital backup camera that can be expanded up to six total views. These camera views are displayed in the infotainment screen and the driver can see up to four views at one time Mack digital cameras can be purchased from their dealer as an expansion kit.

Mack Command Steer is an electronically controlled steering assist that reduces steering effort by up to 85% which reduces driver fatigue and increases steering safety and stability.
