Mack Dealer TEC Equipment Achieves Certified Electric Vehicle (EV) Dealer Status at Oakland Branch

LONG BEACH, California (May 10, 2022) – Mack Trucks announced today that TEC Equipment in Oakland, California, is now a Certified Electric Vehicle (EV) Dealer and will now be able to service and support the Mack LR®Electric refuse truck. Mack made the announcement at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo, May 9-12, at the Long Beach Convention Center, Long Beach California.

This is the third TEC Equipment location in California to be EV-certified. The first was Fontana and La Mirada was the second. TEC Oakland is a Mack Certified Uptime Dealer.

“TEC Equipment continues to invest in the infrastructure and training needed to support electrification,” said Jonathan Randall, Mack Trucks senior vice president of sales and commercial operations. “TEC has proven its commitment to e-mobility, and Mack is proud to work hand-in-hand with them as we partner to achieve sustainability goals.”

EV certification requires dealerships to meet numerous stringent infrastructure, safety, charging, tooling and training requirements. Updating the facility is also required. TEC met frequently with the Mack team during the process to ensure they met all standards to be EV-certified.

TEC Oakland, located at 8099 S. Coliseum Way, has 18 service bays, with three of them dedicated to electric vehicles. The location has 12 technicians, six of whom are master techs, and two of whom are EV-certified. The 45,000 square-foot site on 6.5 acres offers $2.3 million in parts inventory, with more than 22,500 parts in stock.

“We are committed to being the best business partner for our customers, no matter what that looks like,” said Chris Thompson, TEC Equipment dealer principal. “For our Oakland market, that meant supporting our Mack LR Electric customers by becoming EV-certified as quickly as possible. Our Oakland store and service staff stepped up to the challenge, and we are seeing a strong demand from a number of municipalities and refuse customers in particular. We will continue to seek out ways to deliver the best in our service and equipment offerings, and Mack remains a committed and active partner in that endeavor.”

Offering 42 percent more energy, the next generation Mack LR Electric, featured in Mack booth No. 2028 at ACT Expo, features a standard 376kWh total battery capacity for increased range between charges. Twin electric motors produce 448 continuous horsepower and 4,051 lb.-ft. of peak torque output from zero RPM.

Four NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide) lithium-ion batteries, charged through a 150 kW, SAE J1772-compliant charging system, powers the vehicle and all onboard accessories through 12V, 24V and 600V circuits. The two-stage regenerative braking system helps recapture energy from the hundreds of stops the vehicle makes each day with an increasing load.

The Mack LR Electric, which features a copper-colored Bulldog on the cab to signify the all-electric powertrain, may be fitted with equipment bodies from numerous manufacturers based on the unique needs of the customer. The same driver/passenger side driving configurations, as well as seating choices and door options, are offered in the LR Electric as on the diesel-powered Mack LR model.

TEC operates 32 locations with dealership in Washington, Oregon, Nevada, California, Arizona, Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota. The TEC Oakland site was purchased by TEC in 2005. TEC Oakland is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
