America on Wheels, a museum celebrating the heritage of over-the-road transportation in the United States, opened April 12, 2008 in Mack's hometown of Allentown, PA.
The new 48,000 square-foot facility on Allentown's Lehigh Landing Riverfront boasts a wide variety of exhibits and activities aimed at telling the story of American's love affair with the road and the methods of transportation they've used over the last 100 years.
The centerpiece of the 48,000-square-foot museum is a large exhibit area highlighting the history and contributions of Mack Trucks, Inc. - including eight fully restored vintage Mack vehicles, associated artifacts from the Mack Trucks Historical Collection, and even a driving simulator for the kids made from a real Mack Granite cab. Nearby, other exhibits and displays elaborate on the importance of trucking to our way of life in the United States.
American on Wheels is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. For more information about America On Wheels, its exhibits and opportunities to support its programs, click here to visit their Web site, http://www.americaonwheels.org/.
